The Payback / White Chalk Cross

Download only, double A-side single. Pay-what-you-want, all proceeds will be donated to SHELTER, so that means turkey sandwiches all round.........it is Christmas after all.

Love,

BREATHE OUT.

Here's some words -
"The rather-brilliant Breathe Out have today released a new download-only single via their blog. The AA-side single contains two new tracks The Payback and White Chalk Cross and if the fact that both songs are as good as anything the band have produced so far isn’t enough to convince you to buy the tracks then you should also know that all the money raised from the single will go to the Shelter charity.
As far as the two tracks are concerned, White Chalk Cross drifts along nicely on Lemonheads-style vibes but it’s The Payback that steals the show and is another sparkling slice of up-tempo-rock-with-real-heart, all head-rush guitar solo’s and heart-pounding melodies that reminds us just why we fell so hard for the band’s debut EP"
Goldflake Paint, December 2011
"Fine work!"
Jon Hillcock, BBC 6 Music

Lyrics:

THE PAYBACK
Little shoes sat on the steps
Freaking out on something I just read
In my mother's magazines
Predicting my end in 3D live on my television

When I was just a boy
I used to feel like I'd die
on a sunday afternoon
eating all my insides out

I feel it rising up through me
little yellow diamonds on my knees
I feel it flowing through my feet
bubbling in my stomach burning at the core of my body

So long, so long, so long ago

Don't take it all out on me
get ready for the payback
completely dead too bleak to see
that there's no way back from here

Take my shoes off
Breathing backwards
Cough my lungs up
Not growing up I'm growing down.

WHITE CHALK CROSS
My child you've suffered enough
I'll give you what they say you've lost
I'll let you live with us
I'll give you what they say you've lost

Even though I feel so lost
I have faith in my family
they're coming back for me
even though I seem so lost

You cannot drink the water flowing off your back
You need a higher mentor picking up the slack
White chalk cross won't protect you from what is wrong
Shave off all your hair and forget where you come from

My God I've suffered enough
Just give me what they say I've lost
Just let me live with you
Just give me what they say I've lost

I cannot drink the water flowing off my back
I need a higher mentor picking up the slack
White chalk cross, protect me from what is wrong
Shave off all my hair and forget where I come from.

Acoustic GAGA.

Evening all,

Whilst our campaign for a new drummer continues (we're nearly there) Alex and James will be playing some 'intimate + sexy' acoustic shows over the festive period.  It's an opportunity for mulled wine, hot apple and rum or just a plain old ale and a cheeky scotch egg.

We play the Be Well Dressed Blog Launch @ The Rag Factory, Brick Lane, December 8th
and the Macbeth for Kevin Morosky, Hoxton, November 28th.

In the meantime, we have some exciting charity based/new song/christmas No.1 news very soon.

Remember John Maus@Rough Trade tomorrow at 1pm, see you in the PIT >>>

NEW TRACK!

For the last three months, lovelorn and suffering from various rare diseases, we secluded ourselves in a remote cabin in northwestern Wisconsin planning to "hibernate." The months of solitude resulted in the creation of Everything You Know.

Check it.
Everything You Know by Breathe Out

Amidst the soul searching we also found time to do a little remix of Deep Impact.
  Deep Impact by Breathe Out

"All of our personal trouble, lack of perspective, heartache, longing, love, loss and guilt that has been stockpiled over the course of the past six years, has been suddenly purged into the form of song."

It's good to be back.

He's Just Like One Of Us.

Imagine my musical excitement when i spotted Mr. Lou Reed (right) at Pisa International airport yesterday.

There was an amusing juxtaposition between the guy who sang 'Heroin' perched under a cafe slogan of 'Food & Relax'.

Absolute. Undeniable. Legend.

Just a shame i was way, way too scared to say hello.

Clydesdale.

ANNOUNCEMENT.

Our fast fingered, faithful, nodding bass player Andy Clydesdale played his final show with us at Notting Hill Arts Club last night.  There was a dancing hippy, it kinda kicked off and was lots of fun.

Check out his photography and stuff here:
http://icantseestraight.blogspot.com/

...and of course, his City Shanty Band:

We're gonna miss him very much.....like Michael missed Ben.

Practice makes PERFECT.

Whilst our very own SoundSavers II is being sculptured somewhere in the secret alleys of Homerton, we have no choice but to find other places to rehearse.  Last night was no exception.  Alex's car is also on the scrap heap so we had to use public transport to get our gear to a sub basement in Dalston, it smelt damply weird but contained some hilarious remnants of a time gone by.

..and it was actually quite fun.

We worked on new song 'White Chalk Cross'.

Tomorrow we record another new song 'Cut out and Keep'.

Oh and the stray 'Venom' plectrum is now mine.

Kind regards,

James.

Critical Acclaim:

"It’s blistering stuff indeed and as far as introductions go, it’s one of the most raw, not to mention thrilling, that we’ve heard in a long time (...) There's something going on here that instantly grabs the attention.  It sounds completely fresh; always intriguing, often joyous, occasionally heavy-hearted - but never anything less than exceptional." - GoldFlakePaint

"'Feathers' starts like a Japandroids noise-homage, but immediately settles down into a mid-tempo crunch. Amidst the static, though, is a gorgeous chorus, accentuated by an “Only Shallow”-esque drum fill – a lovely nuance typically expected from veteran acts, not rookies." - Listen Before You Buy

"There’s a confident edge to these recordings, a hint of a new band who might just have something a little more about them in terms of both drive and imagination (...) there is something extra, a little touch of something that’s intriguing, a little touch of extra quality" - The Organ Magazine

"Songs like Green Milk owe much of their appeal to the carefully free-wheeling nature of the noise itself; which is both a rarity and also a delicate balancing act between ear-shredding stupidity and joyful abandon. Sure, the song is a good one, but it draws gut feeling from its listeners via sonic obtusity as much as it draws pleasure from melody. This makes the song something to behold and enjoy on slightly different merits, all whilst remaining within your comfort zone. Clever." - A New Band A Day

"The EP is a marvellously eclectic affair, kicking off with the heated “Green Milk”, anchored with J. Mascis hooks that calm during the reassuring harmonies of lead track “Ride The Waves”. “Feathers” fidgets its way into the bliss of “1,000,000 Times Before” and then, almost as if you can hear the evolution of four people within these 15 minutes, “Elite/Corrigans” cliff hangs an aura of ambience to the piece." - Fresh Kills blog

......and dont forget to attend the EP Release Party - Friday 1st April @ The Victoria, Queensbridge RD. Dalston.  Plus special guests; Black Tambourines, Soft Arrows and Jon Hillcock DJ (NME/6 Music/XFM) and Scene not Herd DJ's.   Its gonna be a blast, will be nice to see you all there.

Breathe Out - Breathe Out (Photozine EP) by Art Is Hard Records

Here's what Art Is Hard say about it:

"It seems only 2 weeks since we were telling you all about our last release, and that’s probably because it actually was. We’ve been working really hard since Christmas (as hard as you can with two full time jobs and student responsibilities) to get things into place and we’re extremely excited to let you know we will be releasing the debut EP of London based Breathe Out.
Breathe Out are Alex, Andy, James and Tom and they make wonderful pseudo slacker pop about making your Dad cry and parachuting. Here’s what some other people have said

“Snotty bedroom punk” - Neu magazine

“Sub Pop-inspired melancholia” - Abeano

Not wanting to be ones to do things the conventional way, we are making the EP available as a photozine with CD EP encased and features 16 pages of photos from the band.

I’m sure you’ll be hearing a lot more about Breathe Out over the coming months, and not just from us. The band are rapidly becoming staple name in East London’s live music scene, recently gaining attention from Jon Hillcock, who featured them on BBC 6 Music and through his New Noise podcast.
The release is available to pre order below and will ship on the release date of 21.3.11."

'Green Milk', Sunday December 7th 2008

Just found this from the vaults.....the start of Breathe Out.  Alex overheard me jamming and knocked on my door with his mobile phone and recorded the riff.  I had a habit of throwing them away.  The song was recorded 14 months later, its about Vietnam...check it out on the player >>>
